Welcome to iPower® a UK based Designer, Manufacturer and Supplier of power products and solutions to the Data Centre / Communications / IT industry large and small. Providing both Intelligent, passive, and active products. Through its various routes to market we provide standard and custom UK manufactured and supported power solutions. All products are manufactured to the highest standards and approvals and all iPower® units come with our 5 year return to base warranty.
Products Supplied include:
iPower® has used its many years of experience that its key personnel have in the electrical and data centre market to establish a business ethos that we believe understands a clients key objectives:
iPower® is very proud that all its key products are manufactured using UK sourced components and supported by UK based designers and developers.
An IP managed PDU will monitor and control the electrical power used by new equipment and or legacy installations in a rack cabinet or other enclosures. Typically, it measures consumption (Amps/Volts) and efficiency (PF) and without this level of information, it is impossible to identify and thus optimise, the power usage within a data centre to minimise energy consumption, in keeping with the Green initiative.
iPower® PDU solutions will provide accurate and detailed information of power usage down to socket level, to an accuracy of < 1%. In addition to monitoring power metrics, iPower® can remotely power cycle individual outlets, allowing remote re-booting of servers. By using the internal HTML pages, traps and alerts can be set to advise of changes in expected usage down to socket level. This can help identify potential problems with the main supply or the equipment under power and help to pre-empt and reduce unscheduled interruptions.
iPower® not only reports on power, but it will also provide supplementary information and control for both environmental conditions and rack security. This includes temperature and humidity, smoke and water, webcams and rack door access control. Together, this level of information provides the user with an integrated solution to monitor, control and secure their IT Environment.
The information provided by iPower® PDUs can be used to develop an IT strategy to optimise equipment and space, with the aim of reducing power consumption and managing potential problems before they become critical. This enables sites to prove compliance with the Governments Green directives and helps in achieving business goals for efficiency and the reduction of capitol and operating costs.
Information collected by iPower® products, along with associated alerts, is shown locally on the in-built display and can also be accessed remotely via the embedded HTML web browser. Alternately, it can be integrated in to a third party DCiM using the MiB file. PDU Agent™ is iPower's own entry level management software (Suitable for small to medium installations) When running the application, historical data logs and alerts can be viewed as graphical information or exported as a CSV file. This is supplied free of charge with no ongoing fees.
The iPower PDU Overall Energy Measurement uses a calibrated resistor / shunt for its core power measurements, along with a metering IC that samples the mains supply over 4000 times a second to provide true RMS Voltage, Current and kWh to Class II accuracy. (Power kWh direct reading better than +/- 1% (kWh to BS EN IEC 62053-23:2021+A11:2021) Class II Cumulative reading).
The iPower PDU has the following internally monitored Energy Readings, Voltage (True RMS Reading) Current (True RMS Reading) Kilowatt Hour (Cumulative Reading), Class II Accuracy (Billing Quality). Kilograms of CO2 (Cumulative Reading). Kilo Joules, Kilowatts, Power Factor, BTU’s (British Thermal Units) Also additional readings include Peak Current, Peak Voltage, kVA. All calculations are made using a True Power Factor reading, (Not an Assumed Power Factor); The Power Factor reading is key as this provides the accuracy for the Kilowatt readings and is dependent on the type of equipment drawing power.
As a typical example a known load of 6 Kilowatts reported as 5.997kW by an iPower PDU, whereas some alternative manufacturers reported readings as high as 6.6kW as they do not factor in the entire AC Waveform or a true Power Factor.
The complete iPower product range is manufactured within the UK, this means we are able to build to order using any socket type or combination of sockets that a customer may require. The objective being that the customer can have what they want rather than settle for a standard product that may not quite meet their needs. We can produce cost effective solutions in small or large quantities without long lead times.
Typical Options include.
iPower PDUs can be ‘Daisy Chained’ using the local Modbus port, using straightforward cabling, the product may be configured as a ‘Master’ and connected to up to thirty-one other PDU’s that are configured as ‘Slaves’, to collect measurement data for query over the Master configured device SNMP / HTML interface.
This cascading functionality is available on the IPLites and the ACU products (Not the REM based Product).
Please see the Technical Section for Setup / Implementation instructions.
Depending on the model of IPower units supplied the displays vary with regards looks and functionality.
The ACU product models IP1, IP2, and IP3 can be built with a field swappable Control Card, Network Ports and Display. Without losing power to equipment or downtime a skilled iPower trained technician can carry out a control Board swap.
Please contact the tech team for further information.
All iPower options (REM, IPLite, and ACU (IP1 only) can be built as an inline unit, this is a cost effective way to monitor free standing equipment, or legacy equipment without the need to remove existing non intelligent or basic PDUs.
The iPower range of products can be manufactured to suit your incoming supply. Mains leads can be top or bottom fed depending on your installation, and terminated with any length / type of cable for example HO7, PVC, LSOH/LSZH, and SWA. We make sure the Conductor size is suitable for you potential current draw. Mains leads can be fixed or detachable depending on your needs / access arrangements.
Other plug types are available.
The product is provided with a MIB [Management Information Base] for use with any SNMPv2/v3 manager. This MIB outlines all the accessible registers, their type and description and is called. For more information, please contact us and we can supply the correct up to date MIB file for your product.
PDU Agent is our ‘Free of Charge’ PDU Management Software, it works with all iPower products and Runs as an installed Windows application, suitable for Small to Medium installations where the cost of a full DCiM may be prohibitive, PDU Agent can connect to up to 50 IP Addresses either Standalone or daisy chained, whilst running it will Store Event and Historical logs allowing the user to create usage graphs whilst also being able to Monitor, Manage and Control Connected equipment.
To comply with the latest regulations (EN 62368) which states ‘No Unprotected socket should be able to draw more than its designated load’ a range of protection options are available
Please contact our technical department to discuss the option most suitable for your product.
The iPower ACU range can be built with up to three meter boards, this means you can accurately measure up to three feeds with a single PDU. Examples of possible applications are as follows.
Please connect our Technical department for help with your requirements.
Each option of the IPower range of units can be manufactured with any quantity* and combination or type of sockets. These include:
Other socket types are available.
The Number of Sockets on a PDU can vary based on available size and current / load requirements, there is no maximum number of sockets (except IP2, IP3, and IP4 where the maximum number of sockets is 48).
The product uses AC waveform monitoring to determine the active feeds, their frequency and timing to allow fast transfer from one feed to the other even in 3-phase derived systems.
In AUTO mode the currently selected feed is constantly monitored on a half-cycle basis (every 10mS in a 50Hz system) for a drop within the half cycle to determine if the feed has dropped out and deactivates it’s SSR accordingly. If the second feed is present a timer is started to determine the cycle to cycle timing between the feeds ie. In a 3-phase 50Hz system approx. 3.3mS. This allows the second feed SSR to be switched in on the next correctly phased transition, 6.6mS – 13.3mS, depending if the feed is leading or lagging.
